Write for us

Aestumanda is an independent British publication bringing thoughtful reporting, analysis, opinion, features and reviews to readers interested in the issues and ideas shaping our world.

We welcome contributions from writers who have something original, informed and engaging to say. Whether you are an experienced journalist, a specialist in your field or a new writer with a compelling perspective, we are interested in hearing from you.

Our priority is quality rather than quantity. We value well-researched articles, clear arguments, distinctive ideas and writing that respects the reader’s intelligence.

What we’re looking for

Aestumanda publishes a broad range of editorial content, including:

  • Analysis: Articles that examine important developments, explain their wider significance and provide readers with meaningful context.
  • Opinion: Thoughtful, evidence-based arguments offering a distinctive perspective on current affairs, public policy, culture or society.
  • Features: Engaging, original stories that explore people, ideas, experiences and developments in greater depth.
  • Reviews: Independent assessments of technology, entertainment, books, films, television and other subjects relevant to our readers.
  • News and reporting: Carefully researched stories that contribute useful information, fresh insight or an angle not already widely covered.
  • Personal perspectives: First-hand accounts that illuminate wider social, cultural or technological issues.

We particularly welcome articles that go beyond familiar arguments, question assumptions or bring overlooked perspectives into the conversation.

Our editorial interests

Aestumanda covers subjects of interest to readers in Britain and internationally. Our principal areas include:

  • Politics, government and public policy
  • Society, equality, human rights and social change
  • Technology, artificial intelligence and digital life
  • Culture, entertainment, film, television and the arts
  • Health, wellbeing, healthcare and social care
  • Business, economics and working life
  • Consumer issues, accessibility and independent living

These are not exclusive categories. If you have a strong idea that falls outside them, we are happy to consider it.

We have particular experience in technology accessibility, disability rights and social care, but Aestumanda is a general-interest publication. Contributors are not expected to approach every subject through those perspectives.

Our editorial standards

We want Aestumanda to be a publication readers can trust. All submissions should meet the following principles:

  • Originality: Articles must be original work and must not infringe copyright or reproduce substantial material from other publications without permission.
  • Accuracy: Factual claims should be verifiable, with reliable sources provided where appropriate.
  • Fairness: Arguments should represent relevant evidence and opposing viewpoints accurately, even when taking a strong editorial position.
  • Clarity: Writing should be accessible, engaging and free from unnecessary jargon.
  • Transparency: Contributors must disclose relevant personal, financial or commercial interests that could influence their work.
  • Attribution: Quotations, research, statistics and third-party material must be properly credited.

Opinion pieces are welcome and need not be neutral, but they should be grounded in evidence and distinguish factual reporting from interpretation.

All submissions are subject to editorial review. We may request revisions, fact-check claims, edit for clarity and house style, or decline material that does not meet our requirements. Submission does not guarantee publication.

Who can contribute?

We welcome pitches from journalists, independent writers, researchers, academics, industry specialists and people with relevant professional or personal experience.

You do not need an established journalism career. What matters is having a worthwhile idea, the knowledge or research to support it, and the ability to communicate it clearly.

We are particularly interested in developing relationships with reliable contributors who share our commitment to thoughtful, independent writing.

Authorship and contributor profiles

Articles should normally be published under the real full name of the individual who wrote them, rather than solely under a company, organisation or brand name.

Published contributors will generally be asked to register for an Aestumanda author account and provide:

  • Their full author name
  • A short personal biography explaining their relevant background or interests
  • A clear author photograph suitable for an editorial profile
  • Relevant writing samples or professional information, where appropriate

We recognise that some writers have legitimate reasons for protecting their public identity. A realistic pen name may be considered by prior agreement with the editor. Any alternative author photograph or avatar must also be approved and must not be misleading or commercially branded.

Company affiliations may be acknowledged in a contributor biography where relevant, but editorial articles should remain attributable to an individual writer.

Commercial content and editorial independence

Aestumanda welcomes contributors with professional expertise, but we do not accept articles primarily designed to advertise businesses, promote products or secure search-engine backlinks.

We do not offer guaranteed publication in exchange for payment, promotional arrangements or link placements.

Relevant external links may be included where they genuinely support the article and benefit readers. Promotional links within articles are not automatically permitted, and any link in an author biography is subject to editorial approval.

Contributors must disclose relevant commercial relationships and potential conflicts of interest before publication.

Payment and publication terms

At present, Aestumanda is an independently run publication and guest contributions are unpaid. We want to be transparent about this before writers commit time to preparing an article.

Accepted articles will carry an appropriate author credit and contributor biography, subject to our editorial guidelines.

Copyright and publication permissions should be agreed before publication. Contributors must have the necessary rights to submit their writing and any accompanying photographs, graphics or other material.

How to pitch an article

We recommend contacting us with your idea before writing a complete article. This helps establish whether the subject and approach are suitable for Aestumanda and avoids unnecessary work.

Please include:

  • Proposed headline: A clear, engaging working title.
  • Article outline: A short explanation of the subject, central argument or story you want to tell.
  • Why it matters: What makes your angle distinctive, timely or useful to readers?
  • Approximate length: Your proposed word count. As a general guide, many features and analysis pieces will fall between 900 and 1,500 words, although length depends on the subject.
  • Sources and experience: Relevant research, evidence or knowledge supporting your proposed article.
  • About you: Your full name, a short introduction and links to previous published work, if available.

Please also tell us whether the article has been submitted to, published by or commissioned for another publication.

Photographs and illustrations

Original photographs, charts and illustrations can strengthen an article, but contributors must have permission to supply them for publication.

Where relevant, please provide the creator’s name, original source and applicable licence or permission details. Images downloaded from search engines or social media should not be assumed to be free to reuse.

We may source suitable editorial images independently where necessary.

Send us your idea

We review submissions as editorial commitments allow. While we aim to consider suitable proposals, we cannot guarantee an individual response or publication.
